South America has four direct places to the next World Cup and one to the repechage

The qualifiers to the next World Cup of Russia 2018 will deliver four direct places to South America plus another place in the playoff against one of the countries of the Confederation of Oceania.



The International Football Association (FIFA) will award four South American qualifiers to the 2018 World Cup in four direct places corresponding to the first four teams in the final standings. In addition, the selection that finishes in the fifth position will have one more chance to go to the World-wide, since it will dispute a repechaje with a selected one of the Confederation of Oceania.

There have already been seven dates in the qualifying rounds, just over a year and a half away from the 2014 World Cup, placing Uruguay, Brazil, Argentina and Colombia as the top four in the standings, displacing Ecuador, leaving for now without World the bi champion of America, Chile.


The South American qualifiers have ten selected who will compete for almost three years for the five possible places in the next World Cup. All teams will face each other twice, in matches that will be played as a home and away. The team that goes to the playoffs will play two matches (one round and one return) against the team that finishes first in the Confederation of Soccer of Oceania, on November 6 and 14, 2017. In the event that two teams or more equal in points, the classification will be given by the difference of goals and if they remain tied, will be classified who has converted more goals in all the matches.

Altogether, the South American Qualifier will have 18 days, four will be in 2015, six will take place in 2016 and eight in 2017.
